Jack and Jill

by Warren
(Sydney)

Jack and Jill is just one of so many rhymes that are a lot of fun and this one always intrigued me from when I was little. How do you mend a head with "vinegar and brown paper"? How strange. Maybe Jill (jillsmusic !!) you can enlighten me.

I always remembered this rhyme when I had tumbled out of my billy cart after going down what I thought was a really steep hill made of gravel stones and dirt. As an adult I have returned to that hill and it isn't as steep as I remember - and I still remembered the rhyme when I stood there - isn't that interesting!!

Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after.

Up Jack got and home did trot
As fast as he could caper;
And went to bed to mend his head
With vinegar and brown paper.
